America is celebrating 250 years since its founding. The promise of America—freedom, equality and justice—has yet to be fully realized for all its inhabitants. In this time of reflection, we invite you to join us in a conversation about how we can work together to make this promise a reality. How do we build a society where everyone can thrive?

Topics: Realizing the Promise of America

Based on a recent letter from the Baha’is to all who call America “home”, this monthly conversation series covers the following topics:

  1. June 13 - Unity.  Accepting that we all are part of one human family helps us listen respectfully to others and share ideas. Conversations based on goodwill, fair mindedness and love can help build community, catalyze action, and facilitate progress.

  2. July 11 - Diversity.  Acknowledging the challenges that face us all, everyone has a part to play in fulfilling the promise of America. How do we build genuine bonds of mutual responsibility and collaboration that will allow us to transcend whatever differences arise as we work together?

  3. August 15 - New Social Mindset.  How do we develop a new social mindset that brings us to see our own well-being in the prosperity of the whole of society? What kind of educational programs could prepare us for this role?

  4. September - Stewardship.  Spiritual and moral principles can unite us, helping us realize that all life is an interdependent whole. How can a common spirit bring different belief systems into a partnership as stewards for all living things and our planet home?

  5. October - Institutions.  For everyone to reach their full potential, we must strengthen the fundamental institutions of our society. How can we strengthen our families, schools and other civic entities to serve our new future vision?

  6. November - Grassroots Action.  Meaningful change can advance in unassuming settings at the grassroots. By inviting everyone into this discussion, let us consider the needs of our neighborhoods, our communities. What actions can we take that are appropriate, empowering and sustainable?

The founding of our country was based on ideals, like freedom, equality, and justice, that reflect deep, shared human aspirations. In this common endeavor, we have experienced progress and accomplishments, but also setbacks and crises…We all have a part to play in fulfilling the hope of this country. ~ A Common Endeavor: Realizing the Promise of America, letter from the Baha'is to America
