The Finding Common Ground conversation series has been inviting people for the past year to join us in rich discussions. We will begin our second year with a challenging series related to marking the 250th anniversary of our country’s founding.
From “A Common Endeavor, Realizing the Promise of America”:
“The founding of our country was based on ideals, like freedom, equality, and justice, that reflect deep, shared human aspirations. In this common endeavor, we have experienced progress and accomplishments, but also setbacks and crises…We all have a part to play in fulfilling the hope of this country. Whatever our background–whether our ancestors were the first inhabitants of this land, or were brought here in forced servitude, or came in search of freedom and opportunity–whatever our age or gender, whatever our circumstances, and wherever we are, we each have a sphere in which we can act.”
“This message from the Baha’is of the United States is an invitation to thoughtful conversation. In this time of challenge, we need spaces where we can pause, reflect, and listen to others with openness and goodwill. We hope this message can inspire such conversations–in homes and neighborhoods, in faith communities and civic settings–so that we can move forward together.” – A letter from the Baha’is of America
Over the past year, Finding Common Ground has grown from a few people participating in discussions to “standing room only” at our most recent gathering. For the next six months, FCG is committed to holding a series of thoughtful conversations on the challenges facing our country as it moves forward. Each program will include thought-provoking questions and videos of positive community activities around the country. As is our practice, we will continue to look for ways that we can act together in our community in this Common Endeavour to fulfill the promise of America.
We invite you and your friends to join us for the initial gathering for this new series:
June 13, Saturday
4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
IKE Box Cafe, Bay Room
299 Cottage Street, Salem OR
We'll continue the conversation series over the next few months (same time and place):
July 11
August 15
